Cooling for the food industry
Bakeries, packing rooms, production lines and raw material stores. The food sector needs constant temperature control without contaminating the product or the environment. Blizzcool units cool with evaporated water — with no refrigerant gases — keep the air moving and lower the temperature by up to 10 °C.
The heat challenge in food production
A bakery or food production room generates heat in three ways: the cooking, baking or processing equipment itself; the mandatory industrial lighting; and the number of people working in relatively enclosed spaces.
The ambient temperature directly affects the preservation of raw materials, the quality of the finished product and staff performance. In summer, keeping the room below 25 °C with conventional air conditioning is expensive and, in many cases, insufficient if doors are opened frequently.
Evaporative cooling supplies fresh, renewed air — without recirculating the existing air — and works effectively even with natural ventilation, making it a solution that is compatible with the hygiene requirements of the sector.
Common applications
Each area of a food plant has different temperature requirements. These are the scenarios we deal with most often.
Industrial bakeries
Evaporative coolers next to the work lines to offset the radiant heat from ovens and proving chambers. Renewed air that does not dry out the dough.
Packing and labelling rooms
HVLS ceiling fans to keep the temperature even throughout the room and prevent heat building up at the top, where the light fittings are usually located.
Central kitchens and industrial catering
Wall fans aimed at the production stations. Continuous air movement in the areas with the highest heat load: hobs, fryers and hot lines.
Dry raw material stores
Evaporative coolers and portable fans to keep the temperature under control in stores of flour, spices, nuts or packaging materials.
Recommended equipment for the food industry
The right combination depends on the floor area, the building height and the hygiene requirements of each area. These are the most common product families in the food industry.
Why Blizzcool in the food industry
No refrigerant gases
Evaporative cooling works with water and air. There are no compressors, no gas and no risk of cross-contamination in the production area.
Renewed air, not recirculated
Evaporative coolers bring in fresh outside air that is filtered and cooled. This reduces the concentration of odours, steam and particles in the working environment.
Works with natural ventilation
The system works with doors and windows open. In plants with cross-ventilation or extraction requirements, evaporative cooling fits in without any conflict.
Minimal energy cost
An evaporative cooler uses between 0.5 and 1.5 kW. In a plant with cold rooms and process equipment, adding cooling without sending the bill soaring makes all the difference.
Greater comfort for staff
Lowering the ambient temperature in the work area improves concentration, reduces breaks and complies with occupational health and safety recommendations on heat stress.
