Ventilation and cooling for gyms and fitness centres
Weights rooms, cardio areas, group exercise studios and free-weight zones. At peak times a gym packs moving bodies, metabolic heat and CO₂ into an enclosed space. Blizzcool units renew the air, lower the temperature by up to 10 °C and improve the training experience without recirculating stale air.
The thermal challenge in training spaces
At peak times a gym can have dozens of people training at once. Each moving body generates between 300 and 600 W of metabolic heat. Add lighting, cardio machines with electric motors and the poor ventilation of many commercial premises, and the temperature rises fast.
Conventional air conditioning recirculates the same air and does nothing about CO₂ build-up or odours. In summer, keeping the premises below 26 °C with split units means electricity bills that eat into the centre’s profitability.
Evaporative cooling brings in fresh outside air, cooled and filtered, without recirculating the existing air. That improves the quality of the air people breathe, lowers the temperature effectively and uses a fraction of the energy of a conventional system.
An evaporative cooler uses between 0.5 and 1.5 kW, compared with 5-12 kW for a conventional air conditioning unit of equivalent capacity.
Where it is used in gyms
Each area of a sports centre has a different thermal profile. These are the scenarios where the difference is most noticeable.
Weights and free-weight rooms
Evaporative coolers that blow fresh air directly onto the training areas. Continuous ventilation that renews the air without uncomfortable draughts over the equipment.
Cardio area
HVLS ceiling fans to move large volumes of air at low speed. A 4-6 °C reduction in perceived temperature without direct draughts in users' faces.
Group exercise studios
Directional wall fans for spinning and indoor cycling rooms, group classes and activity studios where user density is high.
Reception, changing rooms and common areas
Portable AC units for enclosed spaces that need a controlled temperature: reception, offices, assessment rooms and changing rooms without a central system.
Recommended equipment for gyms
The solution depends on floor area, ceiling height, user density and the layout of the areas. These are the most common product families.
Why Blizzcool for gyms
Fresh air, not recirculated
Evaporative coolers bring in fresh outside air. That reduces CO₂ levels, odours and the stuffy feeling that spoils the user experience.
Up to 80 % lower energy consumption
An evaporative cooler uses between 0.5 and 1.5 kW. In a gym running on tight margins, keeping cooling costs under control makes a real difference to the monthly bottom line.
A better training experience
Training in a cool space with clean air improves how members perceive the quality of the centre. Users notice the difference from the first session and value comfort as part of the service.
Works with doors open
Many gyms open directly onto the street or onto inner courtyards. Evaporative cooling works in open or semi-open spaces without losing effectiveness.
Scalable by area
You can start by cooling the main room and later extend to the studios. The units are modular: they can be added or moved to suit the layout of the centre.
