Cooling and ventilation for agriculture and livestock
Greenhouses, poultry farms, pig units, livestock farms and crop stores. Heat stress reduces production, increases animal mortality and compromises post-harvest storage. Blizzcool units lower the temperature by up to 10 °C with minimal consumption, with no compressors or refrigerant gases.
The heat challenge on farms
In summer, a livestock building or a greenhouse can exceed 40 °C at midday. Animals eat less, milk production falls, mortality rates soar in poultry farming and pigs suffer severe heat stress from 28 °C upwards.
In agriculture, the temperature inside a greenhouse without forced ventilation can be 10–15 °C higher than outside, speeding up dehydration and crop deterioration. In post-harvest stores, excess heat shortens the shelf life of the stored produce.
Evaporative cooling is the most widespread technology in the world’s agricultural sector for lowering temperatures without resorting to conventional air conditioning: it works with water and air, introduces no chemicals into the environment and its running cost is a fraction of that of any compression system.
Blizzcool evaporative coolers can lower the ambient temperature by up to 10 °C using only water and air.
Typical applications
Every farm has a different thermal profile. These are the scenarios where evaporative cooling and HVLS ventilation add the most value.
Poultry and pig farms
Evaporative coolers in line or under negative pressure to lower the temperature in fattening and farrowing units. Reduced heat stress index and improved feed conversion.
Greenhouses and nurseries
Evaporative cooling by direct supply or combined with extractor fans. Temperature control without pushing relative humidity beyond the range that is useful for the crop.
Livestock buildings and stables
HVLS ceiling fans to move large volumes of air at low speed. Thermal destratification and a lower perceived temperature without uncomfortable draughts for the livestock.
Post-harvest stores and drying sheds
Forced ventilation and evaporative cooling to keep the temperature under control in stores for fruit, vegetables, grain and fodder before distribution.
Recommended units for agriculture and livestock
The choice depends on the floor area, stocking density, crop type and building layout. These are the most common product families in the agricultural sector.
Why Blizzcool for agriculture and livestock
Less heat stress in animals
Lowering the ambient temperature by 8 to 15 °C improves production rates, reduces mortality during extreme heat and improves feed conversion in fattening.
Minimal energy cost
An evaporative cooler uses between 0.5 and 1.5 kW. On farms with hundreds of square metres, the running cost is a fraction of that of any conventional air-conditioning system.
No chemicals or gases
Just water and air. No artificial substances are introduced into the animals' or crops' environment. Compatible with organic and integrated production protocols.
Works with open buildings
Evaporative cooling works with doors and side walls open. On farms with natural cross ventilation, the units fit in without having to close the building.
Scalable in phases
You can start with one or two units in the most critical building and expand gradually. The units are portable or fixed, and the investment is spread according to your needs.
