Ventilation and cooling for sports halls
Multi-sports halls, indoor courts, high-performance centres and municipal sports venues. A hall with an 8-12 metre ceiling builds up heat at the top while the court is left without ventilation. Blizzcool units move the air, lower the temperature and improve conditions for players and spectators.
The thermal challenge in sports halls
An indoor sports hall is a large-volume space with sheet-metal roofs that absorb solar radiation all day long. In summer, the temperature under the roof can exceed 45 °C, and that mass of hot air slowly sinks towards the court.
Cooling a sports hall with conventional air conditioning is unfeasible because of the volume and the cost. Doors are constantly opened for spectators and athletes, and the heat load varies enormously between a training session and a match with a full stand.
Combining HVLS ceiling fans, which destratify the hot air trapped above, with evaporative coolers, which supply fresh air from below, is the most effective and economical solution for this type of venue.
A single Ø 6,100 mm Blizzcool HVLS fan covers up to 1,800 m², moving large volumes of air at a low, constant speed.
Typical applications
Each type of hall has different needs depending on its height, floor area and use. These are the most common scenarios.
Municipal sports centres
HVLS ceiling fans to destratify the hot air trapped under the roof. Evaporative coolers along the sides to supply fresh air at court level.
Indoor basketball and handball courts
A combination of HVLS fans and evaporative coolers to keep the temperature even during matches and training sessions with intense physical activity and spectators in the stands.
High-performance centres
Controlled ventilation in specialised training rooms. Wall fans aimed at the most intense training areas.
Stands and spectator areas
Portable evaporative coolers to cool entrances, foyers and stands during well-attended competitions on hot days.
Recommended equipment for sports halls
The ideal combination depends on the court area, the clear height under the roof and the usual attendance. These are the most widely used product families.
Why Blizzcool for sports halls
Real air destratification
HVLS fans bring down the mass of hot air trapped under the metal roof and mix it with the cooler air at court level. The result: an even temperature throughout the volume.
Minimal running costs
Air conditioning a 2,000 m² sports hall can cost more than renting the venue itself. HVLS fans and evaporative coolers use a fraction of that.
Works with the hall open
The entrance doors of a sports hall are constantly being opened. The HVLS + evaporative system does not lose effectiveness in open spaces, unlike conventional air conditioning.
Better playing conditions
A controlled temperature and fresh air improve sporting performance and reduce the risk of heatstroke during competitions and intensive training in summer.
Comfort for spectators
A cool sports hall keeps its audience. Effective ventilation turns a venue that is uncomfortable in summer into a place where people want to stay and watch the whole match.
